Today indian education is full of theoretical and followed by western education ,But how many of you know that education in ancient india was much more advanced than we all can imagine
From plastic surgery to ayurved and invention of zero to pi ,ancient india was advance not just in education but also in field of medical and scientific research
And one cannot forget that ancient india was home for oldest universities and many Students used to come from babylonia, china, arabia ,greece to graduate in ancient india , One such university was takshashila which is said to be world's first and 3500 year old university

- Lets start from the centre of gandhara , where takshashila was located in ancient times
- It was vedic, hindu and buddhist center of learning where students used to come from different part of world to study and return to their country
- The university was well constructed with laboratories ,observatory, libraries ,research center and not to forget 300 lecture halls with stones benches for sitting
- Entrance exam of takshila was so difficult that only 3 out of every 10 students passed the admission test and students used to entered takshashila at the age of sixteen and they were free to choose their interested subjects
- And it is also said that , students who are really interested in education used to study even after failing in entrance test and most amazing thing was education was completely free those days
- With more than 10,000 students from all over the world ,takshashila offered over 64 different courses in various field such as science, mathematics, medicine, politics, warfare , astronomy, music, philosophy and many such courses which are useful for civilization development
- Along with main courses , students were also learning eighteen arts, which includes skills such as archery , yoga , self defence and hunting
- And we all heard about greatness of panini, chanakya , charaka and chandragupta maurya but many people don't know that these great minds are products of this university.
- First traces of takshashila is found to be in ramayana where taksha was ruler who is son of rama’s brother bharata and it is also found in mahabharata where shukuni’s ancestor were ruling takshashila
- Not just in ramayana and mahabharata ,but several texts of takshashila was mentioned in buddhist and chinese university books
- Takshashilla was center of ancient trade routes and many empires have ruled over it , But saddest thing is , in 5th century ad , hunas completely destroyed takshashila and in 6th century xuanzang in his book writes how takshashila was completely destroyed
- It is said that many travelers and foreign graduates from takshashila spread indian education across world by starting the teachings of takshashila and learning centers in their country after graduating from takshashila
- We all know that , there are many innovations in ancient greek but what many people don't no is greeks stole the knowledge of takshashila by translating writings of takshashila into greek scriptures and later greeks claimed the reward of innovation in front of world
- In year 1931 excavations began and with all evidence it was proved that takshashila was oldest hindu and budduist university and it is in year 1980 unesco listed takshashila as one of the world heritage sites
- But saddest thing is , today takshashila is located in modern pakistan and it is called taxila now
